My Astrophotography

Background

Astrophotography has been a passion of mine for several years. I started taking pictures to better capture and understand what’s in the night sky.

I began with a Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra, which handles night photography well. In July 2025, I upgraded to a dedicated camera setup to further improve quality and flexibility.

My first attempt at capturing the Milky Way and the night sky in the southern hemisphere. This image was also my first attempt at stacking images together to create a better image.

My favourite image so far, taken near the 12 Apostles. You can see the Milky Way core, captured with a Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra + tripod.

A quick shot from my house, not bad despite the light pollution.

Aurora Borealis in the UK, lucky timing to catch both the lights and some stars, this was the other year when it was visable all over the UK so I thought I best get out there and get a quick picture.

A tree that is a famous landmark in the area I live in. This was the first image I took with my new camera setup. It was a clear night however there was some light pollution from the nearby industrial estate to the south which is the direction of the Milkyway at the time. I was able to capture an image of which is feintly visible on the top right of the image.

This is my first attempt at capturing the Andromeda Galaxy. I used a Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM lens on my Canon EOS 800D to capture this image. These were 35 8-second exposures stacked together to create a clearer image. I was able to capture the galaxy and some of its surrounding stars. The galaxy is visible in the middle of the image plus some of its surrounding star constellations. (This image was taken without a tracker)
